Unison began in the early 1980s,When artist john heresy found that mass produced; factory made pastels simply did not offer the qualities he was looking for. He began an inquiry, to see whether, with the pigments available, he could construct some kind of mirror to the magic of color. Unison color soft pastels are the result. These sets are made in half sticks for a greater variety of colors at a lower cost.

This is a wonderful set of pastels. The price was amazing! Mine were shipped from Sweden and arrived a few days before the first date of the estimated arrival "window". The packing worked well. It was not overly bulky, but did the job. No breaks. Unison pastels are an excellent brand (if you are unfamiliar with them). They are soft pastels (not quite as soft as Sennelier, Schminke, or Ludwig, but still soft and lovely to use). The range of colors and values included in this set is an excellent choice either for beginners or for anyone needing to travel with a smaller holder/container (because they are half sticks) with a lot of GOOD colors that will work for most situations. The colors show up well in the photo. They are basically spectrum colors in the medium to higher value scale. There are no dark darks, but I'm sure Unison had to make a cut off somewhere. The color families are very logically arranged in the box if you choose to keep them there. I believe the colors' names are listed on the side of the box or included somewhere - just don't have the box handy at the moment to check. I love not having to tear off the labels too! I am sooooooo pleased with this set. (Now, I'd love a neutral set in this half stick size and of the same quantity and I'd be in heaven. I have plenty of other darks for now.)
